Why the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes Belongs on Your Wall

There's a scene in Matthew 14 that I keep coming back to. A crowd of thousands, tired and hungry, out in the middle of nowhere with the day almost gone. The disciples look around and see the problem clearly. Too many people, not enough food, no way to fix it. Their solution is to send everyone away before things get worse.

But Jesus asks a different question. Not "how do we get rid of this problem," but "what do we already have."

Five loaves. Two fish. That's it. Barely enough for one small family, let alone a crowd stretching out across a hillside.

And He takes it anyway.

The Part That's Easy to Miss

We tend to focus on the miracle itself, the baskets of leftovers, the thousands fed from almost nothing. But the quieter miracle is what happens before the multiplying. Someone hands over what they have, even though it looks small next to the need in front of them.

"He took the five loaves and the two fish, looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke and gave... and they all ate and were satisfied." Matthew 14:19-20

He didn't wait for more. He didn't ask for a better offering. He took what was already there, blessed it, and let it become enough.

What This Looks Like Today

I think most of us know that feeling of standing in front of something too big for what we have to give. Not enough time. Not enough energy. Not enough skill, or savings, or patience left in the tank by the end of the day.

It's tempting to hold back until we feel ready, until our five loaves look more like fifty. But that's not really how this story works. The multiplying happens after the giving, not before it.

Maybe the invitation here isn't to wait until you have more. Maybe it's to hand over what's already in your hands and trust that it can go further than it looks like it can.
